1 Samuel 11

1 - 15 Saul's Victory over the Ammonites

Nahash the Ammonite defeats Jabesh-gilead. He demands that he gouge out all of their right eyes. This is an outrage, and when Saul finds out about it, he cuts up his oxen, and says he will do the same to the Ammonites. He musters the Isrealites and "cut down the Ammonites until the heat of the day; and those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together."

The people want to put to death those who questioned Saul's appointment. Saul says no one will be put to death because the Lord has wrought deliverence to Israel. They go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom and Saul as the king. They rejoice.

A couple of points:
Nahash invaded Jabesh. The "Jabashians" asked him to make a treaty to avoid war. Nahash said that he'd make a treaty only if he could gouge out their right eyes thereby bringing disgrace to Israel. The Jabeshians asked for 7 days to seek help before they surrender.
When Saul hears the news "the spirit of God came upon him in power". He cut up a pair of oxen and said, "This is what will be done to the oxen of anyone who does not follow Saul and Samuel." Then the "terror of the Lord" fell on the people.
When mustered, there were 300,000 Israelites and 30,000 Judahites. The Ammonites were defeated by the "heat of the day".
The people want to kill anyone who questioned Saul's appointment as king but Saul forbids it and the entire nation celebrates the victory and Saul's reaffirmation as king.

No offense, Karlton, but your information was a little confused from mine on several points. I'm not sure if it's the translation or what.

I see. I misunderstood verse 12. It sounds like they want to kill the people who WANTED Saul to reign over them.
