Joshua 8

1 - 29 Ai Captured by a Stratagem and Destroyed

God tells Joshua to take Ai (but only spoil and livestock may they take). Joshua and Israel strictly obey God's orders and they're victorious. It was a slaughter, ending with 12,000 Aian's dead & its king hanging from a tree.

30 - 35 Joshua Renews the Covenant

Joshua builds an altar to God on Mount Ebel and reads the words of Moses' law to Israel.

Question of the Day: Why is it important that Moses law was read to the people of Israel?

Well, it's obvious that God can inspire VERY effective military strategies which result in 100% victory. Military leaders should have very strong faith with all this evidence.

Answer: God was responsible for their success and safety. It was quite appropriate to have this ceremony to honor God. Also, the Israelites were obediant this time.
