2 Corinthians 10

1 - 18 Paul Defends His Ministry

Paul defends the criticsim that he is boasting. He's simply telling it like it is. I like the quote from Jeremiah: (17) "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

Paul does continue to defend himself and his minstray from the influence of the false prophets and those in the church who have been taken in by them. Some of the people say that he speaks strongly in his letters but timidly in person and, therfore, this contradiction discredits him. He reminds them that his defenses aren't going to look the same as worldly people; he isn't going to "stoop to their level".

5 "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." We should do the same.

He also isn't going to "waste time" arguing and defending with the false teachers. He is going to "stay on track" and focus only on God's message for that's all that's important. He suggests that the one who has true, genuine authority will speak of and through God's power, not their own or any worldly authority for God IS always right and, therfore, CAN boast.
